Handicap Access

Welcome to Handicap Access. This is a relatively specialist blog that caters for people with a physical handicap or more correctly, those with disabilities. The general aim is to put together a series of informative posts that cover many of the different aspects surrounding the subject. We will include mobility issues that are evident when going out and getting around town. We will also look at accessibility issues surrounding public buildings, public areas and public recreational facilities.

The articles will also go inside the private home and look at the kinds of layout and design and take a look at where improvements can be made. the idea will be to see where it is possible to make it easier for a person with disabilities to negotiate the house and make full use of all rooms and facilities that are available. After all, being able to get around your own home easily and without relying too heavily on other people is a major benefit when there are so many devices and aids available to help you to do that.

Additionally, we will be taking a look at handicapped transportation such as the handicap vans and other specially customized vehicles that are in use for transporting the people that need them around. We will also look at personal transportation, focusing on the electrically powered handicap scooters and mobility carriages that are seen around the place.

The main aim of this blog is to make it into something for everyone who is affected by any form of physical handicap or disability, and to try and see if there are ways of making improvements.

The choice is often dictated by the use it is to be put to and where you want to go and how far, but generally getting about for people with disabilities is easier now than it probably ever has been at any time in the past.

In fact, traveling with a physical handicap is almost as straight forward as it is for most people, since the availability of specially adapted vehicles for the purpose has grown greatly in number to coincide with the growing awareness of the needs of every person in society no matter what their state of health or needs. So if you want to go on vacation anyplace, it is no more hassle to fly than it is to go by train or bus. You can sail across the sea or enjoy a pleasure cruise around a bunch of islands or across one of the Great Lakes. Or you also have the option to go by road if its not too far away, or a hybrid of these modes of travel.

There are specially equipped handicap RVs for motor home style vacations, or handicap vans or MPVs for getting to and from airports, rail stations, shipping docks or whatever. These days, traveling poses fewer restrictions on wheelchair users than it ever has done, so no matter what your physical and even medical needs, you can be accommodated one way or another to give you a comfortable and pleasant journey to your destination and back.

Even for short distances, there is the option of handicap scooters that can carry a person around town for getting the shopping done or visiting local friends and family. Its all about making life easier.

Its a great thing about the progress of this aspect of society and its modes of transportation with the advances in technology and facilities that makes all these things possible. Its good to be grateful for what we have nowadays that our parents and grandparents never had or could even imagine!

Vacationing in a Handicap RV

When it comes around to vacation time, there are plenty of options available to a person with disabilities who wants to get away and enjoy some rest and relaxation in whatever way they want to. The vacation industry woke up to this huge market some years ago and now offers a dizzying array of vacation ideas and locations for people with physical and mental disabilities. But what if you don’t want to go on a vacation where you’re wrapped in a safety net of cotton wool and treated like you’re a, well a disabled person!

One alternative is to be the captain of your own ship, at least of the road and look into the idea of taking a specially adapted RV that can cater for a number of physical disabilities and allow you to drive off to wherever you choose. There are lots of advantages to getting hold of a wheelchair accessible RV to take yourself and your family on vacation.

Freedom to choose where you go and for how long

Freedom to stop over anywhere you like and not be restricted by an itinerary

Fully accessible by wheelchair users including a wheelchair lift

Buy if you can afford it or get a more economical rental

Pick up and drop off at the location you choose

If these seem like a good deal to you, that’s because it is a good deal. That’s if you like the freedom of the road and being able to choose where you head off to and how long you take getting there, staying there and getting back. You can save money by renting a handicap RV and it makes things much more flexible about where you pick the RV up and drop it off again later.

Its a great alternative to the safer, more homogenized and less exciting vacation options where you have to be where and do what your told! If that’s your thing then fine. But if you want more freedom, more excitement and more control over where you go, a wheelchair accessible RV can give it to you.
